I am new to metal working, but not to dust collection: my wood shop has a professional level system. Metal shops place little emphasis on dust collection. The MAG 200 is one of the few units designed specifically for metal work (conventional dust collectors really aren't suitable. It addresses the unique problems of sparking and possible fire hazard. Durable with well designed filtration oriented to hot metal particles. Strong enough to handle a medium size grinder. You'll need a four foot rubber hose for the connection and some kind of sheet metal collector for your grinder. I made mine from a modified 4 x 10 heating fitting and some additional sheet metal. Made in Wisconsin by a small manufacturer . Has to be opened up and metal dust removed, filters maintained or replaced (consumables are reasonably priced).
I am a hobbiest knife maker and bougth the Magna-Matic after a recommendation from a fellow knife maker and speaking with customer service at Magna-Matic. The unit works amazing and is not only more quiet than the shop-vac I was using but much safer. I hope that a spark arrestor attachement is made in the near future as I could see a lot of knife makers choosing the Magna-Matic for their shop.
This is the second unit I have purchased. Although packed very well, both units arrived with the filter cover dented in. It was easy to bend and straighten, but this can be avoided by eliminating the foam packing in the in the middle of the filter side of the box. MAGNA-MATIC RESPONSE: Hello Tom, we've altered the shape of the foam to resolve this so it does not happen in the future. Thank you for the information.
This dust vac works perfectly. It captures all the metal shavings and debris. It is also fairly quite. Easy to clean the pan and to change out the filters. Couldn't be happier with this magna-matic product, they never disappoint.

The MAG-200 features 3 stages of filtration a metal mesh, MERV 8 pad filter, and MERV 13 pleated filter and has a quiet 70 decibel operating noise level. It will safely draw live sparks, dust, and grit and filter the air that passes through at a MERV 8 rating, lastly the air passes through the MERV 13 filter.
We strongly recommend adding the 200-70 spark arresting box be added if you use the MAG-200 with any BELT GRINDER due to the higher spark temperatures of belt grinding.

The three different inlet choices we offer can be changed at any time. You may purchase replacement inlets if you would like to change your dust collector's CFM rating, but of course one inlet of your choice is included with the purchase of this dust collector. IMPORTANT: We strongly recommend a 4' long run of hose or pipe, and that you have a metal spark box, grit guard, or spark arrestor on the machine that is creating the dust when spark volume is high. If your application does not have a spark arrestor/spark box on the machine then put two elbows in your ducting. Full spark load should not be directly straight piped into the dust collector.
